A Thought Before Bed...
...took tank + 2 dps shaman to do a AN normal just to help a few friends - And found the shamans lagging quite behind a 3 level lower warlock in damage done - Leads me to think I need to look over spell rotations and macros (think I might have to go LB+LB+CL, instead of CL+LB that I do now) as well as spec and gear.
Ding 78x4!
Well x3 really as Babegrin dinged the other day, but getting there - Still mostly questing as it's profitable and I tend to run many instances single boxing as tank, so it's a nice break.

Thread...
...just a quick note to self to keep this thread at Maintakadin around - It's great as a guide for avoidance, which is my next step as Perrigrin now easily breaks 540 defense with a decent amount of hitpoints.
Didn't get much boxing done, but did tank a few heroics.

Gundrak Cleared!
Plodded around questing in Zul'Drak, and got a few quests for Gundrak - So headed in there - And it turned out to be a very easy boxing instance, cleared it with only 1 wipe - Which was due to me not realizing I was pulling a boss :P
Some good quest rewards, but no drops to speak off. Pretty good experience though, so had I realized how easy it was, I would have gone here much sooner - I'm sure it could have been cleared at 75/76 fairly easy. Babegrin dinged 78 during the run, the rest got about half a level to go.
In other news, Perrigrin also tanked Stratholme Heroic today!

First Heroic Tanked!
Not really related to multi-boxing, but happy about it so posting anyways ;) -- Just tanked my first heroic, same day as I dinged 80 even ;)
Was Utgarde Pinnacle, and didn't go to bad, had a couple of wipes on gauntlet and a few random deaths - But nothing to bad :P
Unfortunately King Ymiron didn't give up a Red Sword of Courage, but got 2 quests completed - One with a slight upgrade - Silver-Plated Battlechest.

Ding 80!
Gearing Up
Well, should be hitting 80 on the paladin as soon as the servers come up today. Do have quite some crafted gear banked, but will be using this thread, as well as the thread I posted about a month back to figure out how to upgrade.
Then it will be a race to get the shamans to 80 so I can start trying for heroics.

Ding 77x4!
The shammies are spaced out almost half a level between the fastest and slowest right now, due to participating in instances etc.
Finally ground them to 77 by questing in the Sholazar Basin - Was dreadfully slow, headed over to Grizzly Hills to finish it up - But the amount of collection quests there made it quite painful.
Shelling out the 2000 x 4 gold for the flight skills hurt...but it's needed, now time to save for 4x epic riding skill :P

Ding 76x4 & 79!
Spent some time questing, first in Dragonblight to get the shamans to 76, and then over to Sholazar Basin to get the quests to get the flight path there out of the way.
Might go back to Dragonblight now and finish off some quests, or head to Grizzly Hills to open up some dailies - Not sure.
At least it's quite soon I'll be 80 on the paladin, and be able to fly on the shamans - Just need to have the stamina to get the shamans to 80 to...might do that doing dailies or something, should be good for cash.

Ding 78!
On Perrigrin, 2 more to go - Already got the Titansteel Shield Wall, Tempered Titansteel Helm and Tempered Titansteel Treads made and waiting - Along with the frost resist plate (All blacksmithing skill-ups anyway).
Did try and get Old Kingdom cleared, first 2 bosses were quite easy, but not been able to get passed Jedoga Shadowseeker yet - His AE kills my shamans to quick.

Azjol-Nerub Cleared!
Went in and cleared Azjol-Nerub to get the shamans quest in there out of the way.
Went fairly easy, except on Hadronox, where the fight ended with 4 dead shaman and a paladin at 10% health. But still, all bosses in there killed on first try (this time around at least, did some wipes in there at 73 or so).
Scored a Signet of Arachnathid Command of Anub'arak.

The Nexus Cleared!
Well, about time :P
At 77/75 the team is clearly on the high end for The Nexus, but I hadn't got around to clearing it yet - So went there to finish off some quests.
This time at least all bosses except the last one go down on try 1, to get Keristrasza down I had to try 3 times and fiddle some with my macros.
No drops to speak off.

Ding 77!
Spent a few minutes questing in Dragonblight - Got Perrigrin to 77 - Finally I can fly, which should make it easier to mine what I need to max blacksmithing.

Ding 75x4!
Spent a few minutes in the Nexus trying to tune the setup to work with a dedicated healer. Can't say that it's going that well so far :P
Mostly it's me pushing the wrong buttons and not paying attention, once I get used to it I'm sure I will see that it's easier to do a lot of hard stuff.
Doing this the shamans got to 75.

Respec
Respecced Babegrin to restoration today, decided that that should make instances easier - and when questing I don't really loose that much not beeing 4x dps spec - Mobs die so fast anyways.
Will have to work a bit on setting up some keys for this though, but all in all I think it will be an improvement - Besides it's the setup that I have been meaning to target all along - tank, healer + 3 dps.

Ding 76!
Not much playtime this week either, but managed to get Perrigrin to 76 - Mostly through questing. The shamans are about a level behind since I stopped doing most collection quests on them (which unfortunately means missing quite a few follow-ups).

Nexus Bugging on me...
...been trying 2 times to clear the Nexus, and before I can beat any boss - I completely hang - GMs answer was to port me to UC :P
So, guess no "clear of nexus" heading today, what I saw of the boss fights does indicate that I do get mana problems, so might have to go restoration on one shaman to get mana tide and healing up all the time...

Ding...
...75 on paladin and 74 on shamans - Did it in the Nexus killing Grand Magus Telestra - She's still hard at this level from a simple multiboxing character management perspective.
Bed time though, so no Nexus clear tonight.

Level 80 Dalies
To much work and travel right now, so not gotten to play much - And it looks like it will stay that until week after next :(
Found this thread on dual-boxing.com today, which nicely guides how to do some dailies at 80 - Need to keep that in mind ;)

Utgarde Keep Cleared!
Well, went into Utgarde Keep and managed to clear it - The first two bosses wiped me once each as I was learning, but once I got the fight down they died without a problem - I think that even at level 70 with some half-decent lich king gear it would have been doable - And I was 72 and 73.
Then I came up to Ingvar the Plunderer, and that turned out to be a difficult fight - Took me 5 tries to kill him, and even then I had to blow 4x Fire Elementals and LoH to win.
No loot to speak off, but all the shaman dinged 73, and Perrigrin is almost 74.

Ding 73!
Perrigrin got to 73 last night, and finished up the quests in Borean Thundra. Might go back and do one more collection quest for the shamans as it has a decent caster bracer reward.
Tankadin Gear Progression for Lich King
Found this excellent thread on Maintankadin (great site) - I'll be following it to some degree to make sure I pick up the good stuff on Perrigrin.
Ding 72x4!
Spent a bit questing, finally getting the shamans to 72 - I've started doing most collection quests with my main (the paladin) only as it's just to much work to gather stuff x5. The only exception being if there are great follow-up quests.
I should be able to finish up Borean Tundra today, and then I'll hit a few instances I think.

Minor Progress...
Well, the paladin is 72 now - Seem to be a shortage of tanks around so been doing quite a few instances with him.
The shamans are 70% or so through 71, just questing so far - It's getting to be time to go back to the first instance and also try Utgarde Keep.
I find leveling with 5 boxing takes quite a bit longer than solo, mostly due to doing gathering quests - But at the same time I don't want to miss out the reputation some of them gives, so I end up gritting my teeth and doing them.
Have to say that it helps massively that the new realm is not so crowded - On Silvermoon you had 20 alliance standing on the spawn point of quests mobs, AEing to get the kills - Not very productive.
The good news is that I'm fairly ok with it taking a while and just plodding around in my own pace enjoying the play.

Moving Server
Between the low horde population and long log in queues, my guild finally decided to move off the server today (using the free character transfer).
The Grins' are now calling Chamber of Aspects (EU) their home!

Ding 71!
Well, haven't gone back to The Nexus boxing, but cleared it a number of times with Perrigrin in guild groups - So he's a bit ahead (half a level) of the shamans now.
Way to crowded to enjoy questing, but I find the area that I'm doing (Borean Tundra) nice and intersting, I'm even doing collection quests even though it's a pain :P
I expect to try The Nexus a couple of more times and try and finish most quests here before moving on to the next area.
The whole group is 71 now, and the Shamans have gotten a decent amount of upgrades.

Killed Ormorok!
Well, it's going to take me a while getting used to having to work for my kills :P
On second try I dropped Ormorok the Tree-Shaper in The Nexus - He dropped a Chiseled Stalagmite Pauldrons which I'll keep for Perrigrins DPS set for now.
Then I went on to Anomalus, but wiped repeatedly, a combination of not attacking portals quick enough, not having a heal macro that works when target has no target - and low gear on the shammies kept killing me.
Will go repair and then quest some for a bit of a break. Managed to complete Have They No Shame? in there though, which gave a nice shoulder (minor upgrade) for tanking: Tundra Pauldrons.
Grand Magus Telestra
Tried The Nexus, have to get used to actually needing to heal sometimes (as I never really did any 70 instances).
Grand Magus Telestra is a mean one - Can't get even close to beating her - Looks like she has low hp, but her damage coupled with the fact that she tosses the team around is to much for my under-geared shaman who die almost directly after first toss before i can even get reorganized.
Might have to gear up / level before I can take her - Will give the other bosses in there a go to before I'm going back to questing though.

Gah!
The lift at the first town in Borean Tundra lags out my auto-follow -- Making it a BIG pain to get up to the top :P
Not sure if it's client side lag, or just something in the design of it.
Anyways, good fun so far - Taking my time and not stressing to get up in levels.
The Grind...
...has started.
Took the Zeppelin from Ogrimmar and headed to Borean Tundra - Grabbed all GM professions and did the first batch of quests.
Just one collection quest so far, but that was 15 ground spawns (I don't want to look at another Warsong Munitions) - Five times that stinks :P

Installing...
Went and grabbed 5x normal lich king, and 1x collectors edition today - Got to love the face of the clerk :P
Installing as we speak, the game plan is to stick with 4x shamans + 1x paladin. Going to start with upgrading all tradeskills and then do some quests to improve the shamans gear before rolling into the first instance.
Stay tuned...

Got the shamans to 70!! On the night before the expansion comes out even :P
Now for the big question: Do I swap one out for my mage for the 70-80 leveling?

Ding 69!
Sethekk Halls Cleared!
Well, Sethekk Halls was not the cleanest clear so far... The charming and fearing thrash mobs caused me a few problems before I figured that out - The first boss was easy enough though ... but Talon King Ikiss turned out to be quite difficult.
His AE coupled with the nuking wiped the shamans quite a few time - Thankfully I could reset the encounter with Perrigrin and go again.
At the last attempt I manage to dodge the AE twice before the shaman died, and then I just soloed him with the paladin (using a potion and Lay on Hands, but still).
This encounter really illustrated to me the weakness of multi-boxing, I might have to do some serious looking over my controls when Lich King comes and I don't outgear the content.

Ding 68!
Cleared Auchenai Crypts, was fairly easy except for all the shamans dying on first boss and paladin having to solo it :P
Dinged all of the shamans 68 now, 2 to go!
Mana-Tombs Cleared!
Not much playing due to a football trip and lots of work this week - But sat down and cleared Mana-Tombs today.
Was real easy at 67 with a 70 tank.
Now the big question is: Do I buy Gears of War 2, or try and push for getting the shamans to 70 before the release next week?

Ding 67!
Did some more questing in Zang, enough to get the Reservoir Key, and then went in to the Underbog to finish two quests that I had picked up.
For some reason this time around the final boss in there caused me a lot of trouble, as opposed to clean kill the first time.
Firmly got the grins into 67.
Gathering quests really takes the fun out of boxing though, I'll be heading to the Auchindoun instances next I think.

Ding 66!
Spent a bit of time questing in Zangarmarsh (collection quests are a pain, and Zang seem to have a lot of them).
That got the grins to 66, and another 20% - Not sure if I should keep questing here or move on to the next set of instances - 66 is a bit high for Zang.

Slave Pens and Underbog Cleared!
Saturday, October 18, 2008
Ding 65!
Well, did get quite a lot of WoW playing in the last 2-3 days - But most of it spent doing MC/Onyxia/BWL on Perrigrin to get the achievements.
Also did a few of the Halloween events on him.
Then I re-ran Ramparts, Blood Furnace and Slave Pens to get the achievements unlocked - and some experience. Just as I was killing the 2nd boss in the Slave Pens they announced server downtime though - Will be down 2 flipping hours on a Saturday! :(
At least the grins got to level 65 just before I had to log off.

Glyphs
Next decision that needs to be made is what Glyphs to get. A quick look at the AH this morning shows that there are plenty to buy, but at quite steep prices given how many there are available.
At 70, you can have 2 major and 3 minor - So that's what I need for Perrigrin, at this point the shamans can get 2 of each.
This is what I think I will use for minors:
Glyph of Lay on Hands - sounds quite useful for a minor considering what else there is to chose from.
Glyph of Sense Undead - Not to bad, even if it's very situational.
Glyph of the Wise - Sounds quite interesting.
I haven't been able to get hold of any minors yet.
For majors I installed Glyph of Righteous Defense and Glyph of Spiritual Attunement.
I'll decide on the shamans later, now it's time to fix buttons, addons and macros.

Shaman Talent Spec
Will stay with 4x elemental spec's for now, going to try this one.
Biggest question here is if the "fire skills" are worth going for, as I've been playing so far I don't use the fire damage attacks at all - So saving it for now.

Paladin Talent Spec
Well, been looking over Paladin specs, and think I will try this one.
The main questions are:
Do I want Kings?
For raids, probably yes (depending on spec's of other paladins) - For leveling as a 5 boxer, I think I can live without it.
Do I want Reckoning?
Probably not for a raiding spec, but if I skip Kings the points are not bad to have there for some extra damage.
Is the Improved Devotion Aura worth it?
Once I start to hit 70+ content, I am sure it is going to be worth it. Before that it's probably not necessary (I use Retribution Aura most of the time). Since I'm not going for Kings in this build, I do have the points for it now though, so will be trying it.
Is Guarded by the Light worth it?
I'm getting it for the mana cost reduction, but the points might be better spent on Improved Judgments.
Is Shield of the Templar worth it?
Extra damage is nice, once the shaman are 70+ it might be worth trading it for the mana save of Improved Judgments.

"Echoes of Doom" Released!
While I've been having great fun with Warhammer the last few weeks, I think that WoW will now get some attention.
Patch 3.0.2 - "Echoes of Doom" - among many other things means that leveling 60-70 will be quicker, and I should have a fair chance of having the shamans at 70 before the release of Lich King in about a month.
3.0.2 changed a lot of things though, talents and add-ons needs to be redone, so I don't expect to get any proper play time until I got that sorted.
Check out the patch notes here.

Pause Button Hit!
And the pause button is called Warhammer - Picked up a copy and been fiddling with it instead of multi-boxing - Good fun, hopefully it will last longer than Conan did.
Will get back to multi-boxing at the latest when 3.0 patch hits though, for those last levels to 70.

The Slave Pens Cleared!
Went in to The Slave Pens and cleared it - Turned out to be quite easy aside from forgetting about an AE on Rokmar the Crackler which wiped me, and some interesting pulls when mobs managed to fear Perrigrin.
In the end Quagmirran died, and gave up a Spore-Soaked Vaneer.
Not to bad experience, not sure what would be faster - Farming this or questing.

Less than 2 months to go!
Well, Blizzard finally announced the release date of the expansion - November 13!
I pre-ordered 1 collectors and 4 regular to be able to play day 1, but I have to say that I feel a bit disappointed that I didn't get a chance to spend a month or 2 at level 70 farming with my team.
Since my current play time don't really allow me to worry about raiding I have decided to level to 80 with the entire team - As I don't need to reach 80 particularly fast for raiding, but can go at my own pace.

HFP Questing and Ding 64!
Spent quite a bit of time questing in HFP today - Which dinged the 'grins' 64.
I have to say that questing was a bit slower than I anticipated, but got some nice gear out of it - And it is a nice change from just grinding instances.
For the record, collection quests on 4 characters is a bitch, doubt I'll get around to doing them - Currently debating if I should finish the quests (minus the collection ones) in HFP before heading to grind the faction out in The Slave Pens.

Ding 63!
Well, decided that I really wanted 4x Diamond-Core Sledgemace - Took me around 20 kills of The Maker to get it :P
At least I got 4x Girdle of the Gale Storm and dinged level 63 in the progress.
Time to burn of the HFP quests 4-boxing!

Ding 62 and Farming The Maker
On the second complete clear of BF I scored a Diamond-Core Sledgemace from The Maker - Which is one of the better maces for the 'grins' until 70, so decided to farm for that one and some faction by killing him repeatedly.
I can do a run like that in around 20 minutes if I push it - But in 6 runs, I got 4x Libram of Saints Departed and 2x Ironblade Gauntlets - At least the shammies are 62 and got Thrallamar reputation to 5999/6000 (as well as scoring a few shards).
Most likely I'll try a few more runs for that mace, and then 4-box the quests in HFP before moving on to Zangarmarsh.

Ding 61 and The Blood Furnace Cleared!
Didn't get to play all week, but cleared Ramparts another time this morning, dinging 61 - And then headed to The Blood Furnace.
Turned out to be a decently easy instance, I managed to get one wipe due to not paying attention - And on the last boss, Keli'dan the Breaker, all shamans died due to sloppy AE dodging (I can imagine this place being quite difficult in heroic mode).
Scored some healing gear (Auslese's Light Channeler and Girdle of the Gale Storm), which I start stacking on Babegrin as she will be the dedicated healer once/if I need one.
Finishing the two quests in there also provided some minor upgrades.

Hellfire Ramparts Cleared!
Finally cleared Hellfire Ramparts!
Some careful positioning and this macro:
/castrandom [target=party1target] lightning bolt, grounding totemHelped kill Nazan and Vazruden with no deaths. Did get a Witching Band, and completed the quest - So of to The Blood Furnace next.
Did get a few more AVs completed for the shammies since it's AV weekend, as well as started some HFP questing (some good upgrades to be had).
Experience coming along ok, a bit over halfway to 61 so far.
Wiping in Ramparts!
Well, the trash in Ramparts die fast now - And it's decent experience. I want to build a bit of faction before doing the HFP questing.
The first boss dies quick and easy, but boss 2 killed all the shaman before Perrigrin got him down, and for boss 3 - I just can't kill him before he kills all the shaman with his bad-ass fireballs.
I need to review my moving around setup as well as my healing setup and then go back and beat that place.
AV weekend this weekend, which is nice on Silvermoon horde - Played 5, won 5 (at level 60, level 70 is a completely different story). However 10-30 minute queues make it a bit of a drag to wait for.

Negative Cash Flow
4x Horn of the Swift Timber Wolf - That hurt the funds, got to remember the 5x dailies quests that I'll be able to do soon.
And...
...ding 60!
Finished up the evening in Strat, and got the 'grins' to 60 - Time to try Ramparts again I think!

Ding 59!
Spent a while 4 box questing in the Plaguelands today, great zone for that and I needed the break from boosting.
So, halfway through 59 now.

Best Macro Ever!
Well not really, but a nice one:
/assist focusWill let a skinning slave skin the target of your main, great to use to avoid having to switch focus to a slave to skin - Now if this only worked on mining and herbing + there was a way to share the radar :P

Feeling the Preasure!
Well, saw this message from Blizzard:
I guess RAF leveling alts will have to wait until after the 80 push for me, o'well ;)
Now the only issue is that I'm swamped with work for a good 2 weeks, so wont get much playtime in.
With the release of Wrath of the Lich King approaching, we wanted to provide you with some important information. In preparation for the expansion, we will be issuing a new content patch in the coming weeks. Much like the patch made available shortly before The Burning Crusade's release, this content patch is designed to bridge current game content with that of the expansion and will contain some exciting changes and additions. To me this really increases the preassure of getting the shamans to 70 asap, as the expansion release can't be far off now - I want them in good enough gear to be able to 5-box level with Perrigrin to 80 when the expansion comes + I would have loved to grind out some heroics for the practice.
We have outlined some of the larger features scheduled to release with the patch below:
New class spells and talents
Stormwind Harbor
Barbershops in capital cities
Zeppelin towers outside of Orgrimmar and Tirisfal Glades
Two brand-new Arenas featuring challenging new layouts, terrain hazards, and moving obstacles
Guild calendar
Hunter pet skill revamp
New profession: Inscription
As mentioned above, this is not a comprehensive list, just some of the major highlights. We’ll post the full patch notes as soon as they’re available. Regarding Inscription, please note that all Burning Crusade players will be able to select Inscription as one of their two professions and level up to a skill level of 375 with it. Upon the release of Wrath of the Lich King, players who purchase and install the expansion will be able to continue leveling in Inscription and the other professions beyond 375.

Ding 58 and Stratholme Undead Side Cleared!
So, went to Stratholme to grind some, but decided to clear the undead side, just to see if I could get some loot for the shamans.
The first boss, Baroness Anastari, turned out to be a a bigger pain than expected - Due to her charming the paladin who then proceeded to kill all the shaman - Ended up having to just solo her with Perrigrin, which took ages - But worked fine.
The other 2 bosses before the gate opens were easy enough, the mana draining necromancers was quite the pain though.
Ramstein wasn't really a problem, except him charging the shamans, and with their current health level pretty much 1 hitted them, so ended up with quite a few deaths.
Finally at the Baron, I had forgotten the mechanics of the fight and actually wiped - Thanks to Ankhs I ended up doing a second go - And he went down with no problems (all shaman dead from the aura though) - No loot, but 3 shards ;)
So, as it's standing - The 'grins' are about 20% into 58. A interesting side note is that at 50ish, you get considerably more AD faction than at 70, so the shamans have passed Perrigrin in AD faction :P

Ding 57 and LBRS Cleared!
So, finally got some playtime. Did a quick clear of Strat undead side, and then went back and completed the non gathering quests in LBRS and cleared the whole place - Completing a step on Perrigrins UBRS key in the process.
That got the 'grins' almost halfway through 57, so making decent progress - Will do a few more laps in Strat until 58-59, and then go back and try the first Outlands instance again.

Ding 55 and Trying Ramparts
Well, ground out to 55 in LBRS, and decided to give Hellfire Ramparts a try - That faction would be much more interesting, so I would have prefered to grind out the levels there rather than in some old world place.
However, the damage output of Perrigrin is to low to do this efficiently, and the shamans can barely hit the mobs in there at 55 - So after dropping the first boss, Watchkeeper Gargolmar - I decided to head out and find other hunting grounds for 3-5 levels.
Got a Bracers of Finesse from the boss, which highlights the fact that I now need to level enchanting (or at least before going back to Outlands). Shouldn't be a big deal though as I have tons of materials gathered.

Ding 54 in LBRS!
Work has been way to hectic to get any play time in this week, but spent a while boosting in LBRS tonight and got the 'grins' to 54 - It is quite slow though.
I'm cursing the fact that I decided to get my 4 new accounts just a few weeks before Blizzard introduced the 3x experience for 'refer-a-friend' accounts. Might decide to get a few new accounts to use this once the 'grins' are 70 (unless lich king is out by then).
I find it ironic that I got 3x Bracers of Valor.
I guess the plan now is to do one more level in either LBRS or Strat, and then try out if the experience is better in the first hellfire instance - If not, maybe back to some 4 man questing to 58.

Ding 53 in LBRS!
So, spent a few minutes boosting in LBRS as described here, which got the 'grins' a good bit into 53, not to bad experience.
I called it when I pulled a mob that turned Perrigrin into a frog when I had 30 or so mobs in the pull, which needless to say killed the shamans quickly. But I should be able to push to 55 using this method and maybe some Stratholme - And then either start doing Outlands instances or do a few full old world instance runs.

Ding 52 and BRD Cleared!
Had a few hours to kill, so decided to grind out the last quests in BRD as I think I wont bother with Onyxia, MC and BWL access quests until level 70.
Other than the Lyceum killing the shamans repeatedly, it went fine - if slow. At the end of the day, the 'grins' are almost 53 and the Princess freed and the Emperor dead.
I am looking forward to doing BRD at some point with a boxed group with no high level in it - Could make for some fun hours - It's huge and challenging. I recommend Jame's Guide if you are to attempt it.
Next I think is some boosting in LBRS, and maybe a full run in there to complete The Demon Forge quest for Perrigrin for a nice boosting breastplate: Demon Forged Breastplate.

Ding 51 and More BRD Adventures!
Spent a while in BRD last night, the 'grins' are now 51. Only cleared up to finishing the quest for the Shadowforge Key. I find that it's good experience, but the size of the instance makes for very long runs and I just haven't managed to squeeze in a long enough session to do the whole thing.
I might just decide to come back and finish BRD when the 'grins' can pick up the MC quest, and do boost runs in LBRS until then.

Project: One Man Band
So, stuck at a hotel with a laptop that
- Can't run 5 instances of WoW
- I don't have a Keyclone license for
Well, I figured that the laptop might be able to trot along 4 instances of WoW at absolute minimum settings with no addons - And, there are a few free tools available that can do key broadcasting. I settle on Octopus, but there are a number of other choices listed here.
Fairly easy to set it up and get it working (but have to say that Keyclone is worth its money in my book).
So what to play? Well, I don't want to mess about with the settings of the 'grins' - So instead I decide to roll up 4 shammies to support my level 7 one on Tarren Mill, alliance side.
I rolled on this server as a project to play a bit with a coworker, but haven't put any time in to it due to the 'grins' project. And really, this is only for when I can't play the 'grins', as getting them to 70 is absolute focus.
Takes a while to set it all up, I even use some of the twink money my coworker sent me to create a guild - "One Man Band".
I manage to get the ladies to level 3 doing some newbie quests, and the whole "One Man Band" team is now resting at an inn, waiting on the next business trip before the push to get them to the same level as the main shaman begins.
I do like the idea of having a alt team that...
- ...is alliance (haven't played much there, certainly nothing since the expansion was released)
- ...is on a PvP server (as I never tried that)
- ...is all shaman (I want to take up the 'accomplishments' of solo dungeon clearing where the 'grins' left off to be boosted)
- ...is untwinked in terms of cash and mage water support (enjoying the extra bit of challenge)
The Plan (TM)
Well, not much playtime over the next few days due to various business trips - But, the plan for the next sessions are:
- Finish BRD (will have to go back at some point for the MC access quest as the 'grins' are to low for that).
- Get the Shaman 50 class quest done to get the trinket Enamored Water Spirit, I suspect that one can be good to have situationally. I will probably clear the Sunken Temple while at it.
- Depending on what level the 'grins' are at at this point, doing quest runs of LBRS, Strat and Scholo should take them to a level where the first outland instance is relevant to try.

Starting Blackrock Depths
Well, took me a while to gather the BRD quests - So only had time to finish a few of the ones that have a follow up in there - The 'grins' are halfways through 50 though.
BRD is not a good place for boosting, the rooting mobs create huge problems with big pulls - And to avoid being permanently rooted Perrigrin had to use the bubble more than once.
Lots of BOE blues in here makes it kind of interesting, even though looting takes more time than hunting :P Only killed 1 boss: High Interrogator Gerstahn, who dropped Kentic Amice.

Ding 50!
Tried some boosting in Stratholme & Lower Blackrock Spire, decent experience - but some quite interesting pulls in there ;)
Got the 'grins' to 50, which hopefully should enable all BRD quests.

4 Box Questing and Ding 49!
Spent a while in Feralas and Felwood, knocking out a few quests. Went with only the 4 shaman, as the paladin isn't needed for non elite questing.
Decent experience, even though the Robot quest in Feralas messed up on me a couple of times - But finishing all 3 of them does give a nice xp boost when handing in.
Most likely BRD time next, but will probably take all the playtime I have tomorrow to just gather quests.

Reworked the UI some!
Since I accidentally cast Divine Intervention on one of my slaves in ZF, I decided I had to rework the UI (specially of the paladin, but also of the slaves). Today I finally had some time to do it.
What I ended up with is using Trinity Bars and its built in macro function instead of WoW macros (same language, just seems like trinity don't like using WoW defined macros much). I ended up with a bit heavier footprint in terms of memory (might have to upgrade from 3 GB to 4 to make it behave better in cities and AV - Will see when I get to AV farm mode).
The current setup makes each character playable by itself, which is specially important on the Paladin. What's missing now is setting him up a bit better for healing if I need to go heal specialization. Also, the other characters I play solo needs to be configured a bit to adopt to the Trinity Bars (70 mage and 70 hunter).
For the 'grins', I still have to setup healing macros to heal other characters than the target of the focus target, but that won't be needed for a few levels I think - Most of it can be coped via Chain Heal until it gets harder.
Attached some screenshots, and bare in mind that it's designed to work, not to look good - And also that it hasn't been tuned by playing with it yet ;)

Blizzard Scores Another €70!
One of my 5 accounts have been my wifes, we share the same last name and address and billing information - And the GM I talked to last night didn't say anything about this.
But, being paranoid I decided to completely follow the TOS and went out and bought another battle-chest today, sent myself a 10 day trial and activated it and moved the needed characters over.
Total cost around €70, but at least now I can relax when playing.

Maraudon Cleared and Ding 48!
Gathered all the quests for Maraudon and spent an evening finishing them - Not a huge accomplishment with a 70 paladin tanking, but I can imagine that this instance is no push over for 5x shaman of the proper level, specially not the Princess.
Got a few useful drops out of there: Infernal Trickster Leggings, Gizlock's Hypertech Buckler and Cloud Stone - And probably some other stuff I forgot about.
Also made sure to finish the quest for the Scepter of Celebras on all the 'grins' so that I could shortcut the instance if I ever needed to farm it - Given the high nature resist and the fact that I level so fast, I doubt this will be a place of farming though.
Not quite sure what to do next, either grind out some quests somewhere or maybe head to BRD - I do know that I need to rework the setup for macros and UI now though - Using what I had for 5 shamans with a paladin + 4 shamans is not working well, and would cause extreme problems as soon as I was in a hard instance.

Zul'Farrak Cleared and Ding 46!
Back to normal hunting, gathered the quests for Zul'Farrak and went to get the Mallet from Perrigrins bank - Only to discover he apparently didn't do that quest.
So, off to Hinterlands to get it, also finishing a bunch of quests there - Experience is decent, but will take me a while to adjust to normal leveling.
Then back and cleared ZF two times to finish all the quests, fewer blue drops in there than I remembered, but at least got Gahz'rilla Scale Armor and Jumanza Grips. Plus some nice quest rewards from both ZF and Hinterlands.
With a 70 paladin leading the way the only trouble I have is the two times Perrigrin got turned into a frog - Which with 20 mob pulls killed the shaman quite quickly. The Shaman do over 50% of the damage over an instance run though, so they are helping quite a bit.
Also finished the two homing beacon quests for Hinterlands and Tarnasis.
Now gathering the quests to go do Maraudon.

Ding 44 and Zolo is Fixed
Bah, got to 44 x 4 last night before going to bed, and then I see on the boards this morning that todays patch will fix Zolo so that the skellies now give 1 xp ... o'well - It was fun while it lasted.
The three things that bugs me the most about this is:
Update: I pretty much decided that paladin + 4 shamans is the way to go to 70, for the same reason that I swapped one shaman out. There is no way that 5 shaman would be that much faster to make up for the time it will take to get the 10 levels Perri needs to catch up (if it's even faster).
The three things that bugs me the most about this is:
- I invested well over 50 g on green boosting gear/white that I now wont be needing.
- The decision to take 1 shaman out is now less good - Cause a paladin running instances 'normally' with 4 x 44 shaman won't be that much better than 5 x 44 shaman running the instance, safer yes - But not faster. Unfortunately the decision is pretty irreversible as Perri is lagging 10 levels and that will take a bit to catch up.
- I spent a good while writing the post yesterday describing a how-to for it, which is now useless.

Ding 41 and a 'Zolo Trick' Walkthrough
Ding 41 x 4 - The Zolo Trick makes it so fast at these levels - Sustaining well over 100k xp/h over 2 hours even with running to repair and going afk for 10 minutes.
The Zolo Trick involves the mini boss Zolo in the Sunken Temple - All the information here are from the dual-boxing forums.
NOTE: This 'trick' is nerfed as of 29/30th of July so this text is no longer valid - Just kept here for historical reasons.
A general tip is to make sure you are familiar with the Sunken Temple before you drag level 35s in there, as it is quite deadly to drag them around in there while you are looking for the way.
1) This work to get characters experience from level 35 to around 58 (although the last few levels will be quite slow, so most seem to stop around 52).
2) Get a 70 paladin on a separate account from the characters you intend to level. The trick works with numerous other classes, but a paladin is easiest and what I used and will be describing here.
Remember that account sharing is against the policy, so if you don't have a appropriate boosting character, you need to find a friend willing to do it for you or level one yourself.
3) Now, this trick is not at all depending on gear - Go to the auction house and stock up on green plate armor in the 65-70 range - This is to reduce repair costs.
Also, make sure you have a bunch of green / white shields as you will be going through them fast.
Not brining 4+ shields will severely increase how often you need to go repair. I bought myself 4 Crested Heater Shield in Stonard, costs around 4 g, lasts a good long while and are cheap to repair.
The only other gear that is suggested to bring is any kind of item that will help you self heal with no cast time - Such as Figurine of the Colossus. I use a Spyglass of the Hidden Fleet, and it does help some to. But the trick is doable without any such items.
4) The paladin needs to be protection spec, having the talents Spiritual Focus and Improved Concentration Aura (either get both, or don't bother with any, unless you want it for other reasons than the trick) helps, but is not mandatory.
5) Get your paladin + your team or the characters you are going to boost to the entrance of the Sunken Temple (this can be a bit of a challenge with level 35s, so be careful).
6) Zone in the paladin and track undead and check the troll miniboss spawn points that appear in a cricle around the zone - If you do not find Zolo in the "1 o'clock" or "11 o'clock" position, go out and reset until you do.
Clearing to any other position will take to long, only do this if you hit the instance / hour limit.
7) Clear the 2 groups (and the stair patrol if you want to be safe), and march your team to the hallway just outside Zolo - Take care that the lowbies are not positioned so that the stair patrol or Zolo will aggro them.
From this point, all the team being boosted will do is not time out due to AFK, they must not get aggro in any fashion.
7b) Optional. One of the limits to how quickly you gain xp and how long you can keep going for is how long Zolo is kept alive - The method I'll describe below involves resetting him and running back, which I find simpler - But if you plan to keep going for a really long session and have repair bots handy - It might be worth finding another troll mini boss: Mijan.
Clear from Zolo to Mijan and pull him over to Zolo before you attack Zolo (take care he don't get aggro on the team) - He will keep Zolo healed.
8) Engage Zolo. Put your back to the wall and wait for the skeletons to start spawning.
At this point you want to do damage to the skeletons (don't need to kill them, just a little damage - they will despawn and give xp), but as little damage as possible to Zolo (as when he dies, the fun is over).
As a paladin this means: No retribution aura, no holy shield, no shield spike - Just use Blessing of Sanctuary for the damage. I tend to drop a rank 1 Concentration sometimes to assure that all are damaged - This is not necessary, but will make a small difference as it will tag mobs that completely fail to hit you.
To keep yourself up, use Seal of Light and any healing trinkets etc you might have - If things get rough, you can either bubble and heal - Or if you got the Improved Concentration Aura and Spiritual Focus you can channel heals.
Having Reckoning in your build will help the Seal of Light healing - I find that in most fights I stay at max health with just the Seal of Light.
Do not melee Zolo, as this will reduce the length of the fight.
9) Once Zolo's hp is getting low (under 10% or so, I keep him targeted on my team to always be able to see his hp), ensure your health is high, and jump off the platform where you aggroed Zolo - Down to the dragons. Take care not to aggro them (you can probably easily kill them, but it takes time) - This is easily done.
Run back up (northern tunnel out), you will need to kill 1 group of mobs on the way.
If you pulled the healer to Zolo, you should never have to do this unless you need to heart to repair.
Do NOT kill Zolo until you are done for the session.
10) As your shields break, replace them (you will see a spike in the damage you take :P) - Once you are out of shields or your other gear breaks, use a repair bot or go repair. I run to Stonard, but will probably set my heart to there to make it a bit quicker.
Just leave the team in the instance, they are safe outside Zolos room.
This is a insanely fast way of getting experience through 35-50ish, but there are quite a few drawbacks, such as
A more detailed description of the trick can be found here. Despite the name of that site, the general opinion (and some have even asked GMs about it) is that the 'Zolo Trick' is not any form of exploit.

This is a insanely fast way of getting experience through 35-50ish, but there are quite a few drawbacks, such as
- It's boring
- It costs lots of cash in repairs, while generating absolutely no loot
- Melee classes will be severely under skilled for their level after a boost through here
- The characters being boosted will have gotten no gear upgrades
A more detailed description of the trick can be found here. Despite the name of that site, the general opinion (and some have even asked GMs about it) is that the 'Zolo Trick' is not any form of exploit.

Zolo!
Well, went to the Sunken Temple to try out the 'Zolo Trick' - Which basically involves tanking 100s of skeletons that the mini-named Zolo spawns.
Not been there much, so took me ages to find him - Once I did though, I peaked at 150k xp/h for the 'grins'. Ding 37!
The limiting factor here was really the repair state of Perrigrins gear. Once I properly positioned myself and used Seal of Light, I didn't suffer much from the lack of the Figurine of the Colossus (but I do want to get that one asap).
As I finished the session I killed Zolo, and he gave up a pair of Atal'ai Boots of the Eagle for us.

Ding 35 x 4!
Changes!
Well, I've been debating for a few days to swap the shaman on my main account, Perri - With my paladin, Perrigrin - And resepec him to protection.
The upside of doing this will be much faster leveling, and after 60 or so, practice for tank style 5 boxing instances.
The downside is that this will completely negate any "achievement value" of clearing lower level instances with 5 properly leveled characters.
But, as the heading indicates I've now decided to go for the swap out and boost option - The reason for this being that if I want a shot at being 70 and have done a few 70 instances before the expansion comes out, I will need to do this given my play time.
Also, the paladin is clearly my main, so doing this will make it quicker for him to benefit from the boxing.
I do want a shaman leveled on my main account, so I will either be boosting him with my hunter on another account, or doing some transfers to get him to 70 asap.
But priority for the 'grins' now have changed from doing all possible instances as a 5 man team, to instead reaching 4 shaman + 1 paladin combo at 70 as quickly as possible.
I will revisit the 5 shaman 'proper' leveling combo when that goal is met (maybe even start it up soon to have something to do when tired of boosting).
I do have a level 7 shaman on Tarren Mill that I would like to get up - Will probably build a team around him.
I invested in a set of green armor for cheap repairs and a Felsteel Shield Spike and Petrified Lichen Guard for Perrigrin to help the boosting.

Ding 34!
Farmed SM Library a few times for Robe of Doan, Mantle of Doan, Hypnotic Blade and Illusionary Rod - Although I probably will stick with Death Speaker Robes for the robes and not sure I want to give up the shields to use the Rod.
Now, it seems like they severely reduced the respawn time in there, by the time I kill Doan - All of the first courtyard will be respawned. Leaving me with the option to either die and run back, heart and run back or clear to get out to reset - A bit annoying if you intend to do multiple runs in a row with a team of the level of the instance.
Clearing the Library at 33/34 seem to get me close to 20k xp / hour - Not to bad.

Arcanist Doan Down!
SM Library wing completed!
Once I started tanking him instead of trying to aggro bounce him, it was a fairly straight forward fight.
Although at 33 the instance is no pushover, the houndmaster wiped me once - And I had to go 3 times before I got the strategy right for Arcanist Doan. Biggest issue for me is that his fire AE can pretty much one shot my highest hp shaman - So need a bit of luck and be ready with heals and potions when he does that.
He gave up Robe of Doan and Hypnotic Blade.
Doan 5 Shaman Strategy
Found this video at the dual-boxing.com forums.
Doan will go down next try, just didn't occur to me to try and tank him with no tank.
Note that Vimeo has decided (for some incomprehensible reason) to stop hosting game related videos, so the above link will only work until September.

The Grins are the bitches of Arcanist Doan
So, decided to try out SM Library wing.
Went in and the first pulls go really well - Clear carefully since the mobs are 1-2 levels higher than the 'grins'.
Clear to Houndmaster Loksey, and decide to try and rush him as I seemed to remember him being a archer - Ends up in a wipe at his feet due to bad coordination and no heals - Can't use Ankh so have to run back.
Second try I pull him and manage to get him down, 3 deaths though - So quite a hard fight at 32. He gave up a Dog Whistle.
Even with wipes this is still good experience.
Cleared to Arcanist Doan with one wipe on the monks before him, this time I could Ankh though.
Engaging Doan, and the silence and arcane explosions really mess me up, wipe - With no chance to Ankh.
Zoning back in to find the place respawned, but figured I would go through it again as I forgot to pick one of the quest books up. Much faster clear and the 'grins' ding 33 on the way.
So, this time I figured that I would move in manually and spread out to get Doan down - Only problem is that it seems that entering his room is instant aggro. So I end up with a unprepared pull and had to do my best to get him down - Got him to around 20% and then wiped, no Ankh and zoning in, the place is respawned again - Seems quite fast compared to what I remember.
So, calling it for now - Debating if I need to review my spread out macro to not be as vulnerable to his arcane explosion.
At least I got a bunch of quests completed.

Chain Lightning!
Sweet little spell - Had to try it out and cleared SM GY in record time, will have to move on to the Library tomorrow.
Stranglethorn Vale (North) Questing
So, headed over to Nesingwary's Expedition in northern STV and did the animal hunting quests there - at worst I was doing 16k xp/h, at best - after handing in the last quest I did - It was close to 21k xp/hour for the session.
Now, that session was started in the camp with the quests and all quests picked up, and with a bit of rested xp to use up. On the other hand, I choose far from optimal paths in my hunting as it was a long time since I hunted here, and there was some competition about so had probably 5 minutes of downtime waiting on and searching for mobs.
Now, I believe that if the 9-11k xp/h I got doing the blasted gathering quests in Shimmering Flats, this is probably the other end of the extreme -- All killing quests in a fairly small area.
The question now becomes how to find these areas and not outgrow them to fast, after this 21k xp/hour stint (that was probably about an hour long) - The quests here in STV are now red, the mobs I need to kill are 38, which at 32 (the 'grins' dinged 32 in the middle of the run) takes close to all mana to pull off - Hardly a good use of time.
I might just spend a few runs in SM to catch up a bit in level.
So, the experience analysis so far gives:

More XP Rate
Maybe it was an overstatement to call the previous post 'analysis', it's not that scientific ;)
Anyways, did a SM GY run at 31, and weighted in at 16-17k xp/hour - Should consider that maybe 10% of that time was rested, but on the other hand SM GY has a lot on non-elite mobs.
Update: Did a second SM GY run right after, with no rested and resetting the session just before - Close to 18k xp/h -- So Instance running I guess nets around 16-18 k/h.
Will compare this to some STV questing tonight.

XP Rate Analysis
Well, I'm getting impatient with the leveling rate of the 'grins' - Can't decide what's preferable:
Maybe boosting with the paladin first and then going back and 4-box boost the remaining shaman.
The questing at 31 in The Shimmering Flats yielded around 9k-11k per hour, not that inspiring - Although it is only gathering quests, and there was some competition and I wasn't pushing it. Also worth considering is that it was extremely boring.
I will compare this to running SM GY and to questing in STV (or some other place with fewer gathering quests) later.

- Instances
- Swap one shaman out for my paladin main and boost in instances

Gathering in the Shimmering Flats
Doing a big loop there at the moment, again questing is a bit of a pain - But decent experience - One lap has 4-5 completed quests - And the 'grins' are now 31 :)
Ding 30!
Farmed RFK a few times and got the 'grins' to 30 - Mounts!!
Have to say that RFK wasn't as good experience as I hoped, might do 2-3 levels worth of questing before I start SM Lib.
Also, good thing I rolled this team on a server where I have a few 70s, as there is no way I'm earning enough money on them to even support getting spells - Let alone mounts.

Scarlet Monastery Graveyard Cleared
Did a farming run of RFK, including the escort quest at the end that I had forgotten, got some loot - including Whisperwind Headdress. The swap to cloth / caster gear makes for quicker killing, but a lot more drinking -- Good thing I do have a pet mage for water and food summons.
And since dinging 28 allowed me to start the quest that I got from a previous RFK run, I went to Undercity and handed that one in (getting the RFD follow up). That dinged the 'grins' 29.
And since I was in the area, I went to the Scarlet Monastery and cleared the Graveyard - Wasn't to hard at 29, a bit slow and had one wipe due to being a bit careless.
Only got 2 nameds and no loot to speak off.
I think that I would be quicker off getting 30 in RFK and then come back and farm some more in SM GY - Of course, quickest would be to quest.
Update: Squeezed another SM GY run in before bed, and at least scored a Bloodmage Mantle - But still only 2 nameds in the instance, so a bit bad luck that way.

Ding 28
Finished up a few more quests in Thousand Needles, and the 'grins' are now 28 - Time to go do a few instances again.
It was specially painful to collect the Highperch Wyvern Egg, not sure I can ever stomach that quest again :P

More Questing
Well, was going to finish up some more quests in Thousand Needles this morning and managed to get a bit annoyed.
The Alien Egg quest had me on a bit of a ghost chase, specially with the egg never spawning in the same spot twice - Can't really recommend that one for multi boxers.
The I decided to do Test of Faith as I was passing the quest giver and it will give a nice mace reward at the end - Only thing is that my first shaman decided to not jump of the planks, but rather just jump of the cliff....SPLAT.
I will probably just finish this quest round, and then go soothe myself with a run or two in Razorfen Kraul tonight.

Thousand Needles Questing
Spent around an hour questing in Thousand Needles before bed - And it is quite fast experience, although since the quest killing is so fast and easy with 5 characters, it becomes a bit tedious with all the running around.
The 'grins' dinged 27 though.
The 'grins' dinged 27 though.
BFD Farming
Ground out a BFD run, all the 'grins' are now 26. The mana regeneration totem is quite nice, as well as the higher level making the instance a breeze (pretty much all green at this stage).
With the new policy of wearing caster gear, I got a few items with me: Ghamoo-ra's Bind, Glowing Thresher Cape and various other greens and blues - Including the quest reward from RFK: Marbled Buckler.
Going to get the flight path in Thousand Needles and maybe quest some before bed. The decide tomorrow on whether to go for a bit of questing, or farming RFK.

Well...
...Silvermoon (among most other servers) are down this morning, so no gaming for me - Had planned to get a quick BFD run in before the day starts ... o' well.
The plan (tm) right now is to run BFD one or two times, then recheck RFK and see if it's faster experience there at a higher level.
Also, based on some advice the 'grins' will be swapping in caster gear from now on to see what that does to the kill rate (keeping shields though to retain some survivability).

Thoughts
Well, over at dual-boxing.com, the general opinion seems to be:
I'm gonna look through the excellent Jame's guides to see what my option for questing would be, but otherwise I think I'll go for a run of BFD, and then grind Razorfen Kraul to 28 or so.
Nuking is by far the easiest way to keep consistent damage from all 5 shamans, meleeing and the main shaman immediately tops the others with 5-10% due to how hard it is to get them all positioned fighting.
Unfortunately, the gear I got at the moment is heavily melee oriented - Not sure if it might be worth picking up cloth gear for better caster stats - But I don't want to go back to constantly loosing 1 or 2 'grins' every pull.
A thought as why multi-boxing are so appealing to me: When I announced my normal "ding x5" in guild chat today - A guildie said "Grats you with to much time!".
Now, I'm sure he is referring to the fact that I've managed to be on quite a bit the last few days, and leveled the 'grins' fairly quickly - But, the truth is in fact the opposite.
Multi-boxing allows me to decide what to do and when to do it in the game, if I want to instance - I get to instance.
The drawback is of course that it is a bit more costly, and slightly less social - But just looking at the multi-boxing community it is clear that the 'in-control-of-your-play-time' argument is a huge one for multi-boxers - Most aren't the people who can game 24x7, but rather people who invest in making their game time as productive as possible.
*gets off the soap-box*
- Questing is faster experience
- At my level, either Razorfen Kraul or BFD is the instance of choice

Razorfen Kraul Cleared!
So, went to RFK (in this case, Razorfen Kraul) - Quite challenging at 25, but still doable - Experience is getting quite slow now, so considering if questing a bit might be the way to go - It's either that or farm BFD (or try SM GY).
Got the quests finished for RFK, and some loot - Sadly all for 29-30, so will be a bit before the 'grins' can use it: Swinetusk Shank and Pronged Reaver. Also, the scroll from Charlga Razorflank that starts a quest - It's for level 28.
